Radiation oncology; It is a department that is used in the treatment of cancer and sometimes non-cancer diseases using ionizing radiation, examines the effects of radiation and the behavior of tumors and conducts education and research on these subjects.Radiation Oncology Department is one of the 3 important treatment methods used in the multidisciplinary treatment of cancer, together with surgical and systemic treatments. Radiotherapy can generally be used in combination with other methods or can be used alone in treatment.
There are 2 types of treatment in Radiation Oncology.
1-Curative Radiotherapy; It is the radiotherapy applied to cure oncology patients. There are various treatment applications.
A- Neoadjuvant Radiotherapy (Before surgery)
B- Postoperative Adjuvant Radiotherapy (After surgery)
C- Primary Radiotherapy (in patients who cannot be operated)
D- Radiotherapy simultaneously with chemotherapy
E- Radiotherapy simultaneously with immune treatments
2-Palliative Radiotherapy; It can be used to reduce some of the symptoms, signs, complaints and symptoms of the patient, and to shrink the tumor when it is not possible to completely cure the disease. Radiotherapy used in these cases, pain, bleeding, etc. It can be used for palliative purposes in the treatment of symptoms such as. In our department, there are external (external) treatment and brachytherapy (within the tumor or related organ) possibilities. For external treatments, there are 3 new technology Varian brand linear accelerators and 1 Tomotherapy Radixact device. With our advanced, 3D-CRT (Three Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy), IMRT (Intensity Adjusted Radiotherapy) and IGRT (Imaging Guided Radiotherapy), volumetric density-adjusted arc therapy (RapidArc), which we plan precisely and in detail, KVCT, With CBCT and MVCT imaging, we can treat organ and tumor movements with high precision.
In addition to all external treatments, focal treatments called SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy) and SRS (Stereotactic Radiosurgery) can be performed in the devices. There are two CT simulators in our clinic, one with 4D feature. With the 4D-CT simulator, with the tomographic images taken by taking the respiratory movements of the patients into account, it is ensured that the tumor and organ movements are accurately determined, thus it is possible to determine and plan the treatment area more accurately.
