Areas Of Interest
Gynecological Oncology Surgery is a branch of science that deals with female genital system cancers. These diseases include cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, vulva-vaginal cancer and gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. Our unit is also a branch of medicine where the diagnosis and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix and vulva are performed, and female genital system cancer screening programs are conducted.
As with all types of cancer, early diagnosis is important in gynecological cancers. Today, there are national and international screening programs for gynecological cancers. Our country has a national screening program for cervical cancer. HPV and smear-based screening program can be applied to women of reproductive age. Colposcopic examinations and treatments of patients with high risk HPV DNA positivity or smear abnormality detected in KETEM and Family Health Centers with the national screening program are carried out in our clinic as a reference center. At the same time, HPV DNA test and smear test are performed in hospital laboratories upon the request of the physician. In addition, routine gynecological examinations and ultrasonographies of patients with BRCA mutation carrier familial breast-ovarian cancer risk or diagnosed with breast cancer are performed in our clinic. As a similar group, gynecological examination and ultrasonographic examinations are performed for follow-up-treatment purposes in familial colon cancer patients with an increased risk of endometrial cancer.
