Algology Treatment of Pain

Algology; It is a field of medicine that deals with the treatment of pains that cannot be solved, coped with and whose cause is unknown in the society.

Algology has a wide spectrum from drug therapy to interventional treatment, which we define as medical treatment. Today, while the drugs produced with the developments in the pharmaceutical industry play an important role in the treatment of patients’ pain; The treatment of patients whose pain cannot be relieved by conventional medication is carried out by an “algologist”, that is, a “pain doctor” who has received special training on this subject.

Which Treatment Methods Does Algology Use?

There are many different interventional methods to stop nerve conduction, especially oral medications. One of these methods is chemical drugs that stop nerve conduction by destroying the nerve and radiofrequency (RFT) that stops nerve conduction by generating heat. In addition, there are many drugs and methods used in interventional treatments for pain that temporarily and permanently block nerve conduction and / or eliminate pain. Local anesthetics, steroids, ozone, PRP, laser etc. These can be given as an example.

These methods should definitely be performed in experienced hands by algologists with imaging methods such as x-ray machine (fluoroscopy), ultrasound, computed tomography or MRI, by seeing the bones, nerves and surrounding tissues. It is done using various positions depending on the type of initiative. This is mostly done using local anesthesia in the prone position or the supine position, and it is not performed under general anesthesia in order to prevent damage to the patient during the procedure. If necessary, the patient is treated by applying deep sedation.
